During the 2021-2022 academic year, CEM has received the great news that we have officially become a candidate school* for the PYP/PEP (3-12 years) of the International Baccalaureate.
We are now in our official candidacy period, applying for authorisation as an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School.
IB schools share a common philosophy – a commitment to a high quality and challenging international education – which we believe is important for our students. This process has been a participatory journey in which we have involved the families of the CEM Community. Throughout the academic year, the families of our students have had the opportunity to participate in introductory workshops on the implementation of this programme.
During this academic year 2021-2022, our students have been carrying out projects related to the implementation of this project. Some of them are:
- Enquiry units. This project consists of fostering curiosity for learning in our students, something we should never lose as we grow up! The topics in this unit are related to plants and you only have to see the enthusiasm and excitement with which they try to explain to their teacher Rosa everything they have found out and researched at home.
- Provocation of the exhibition. In the last term of the school year, our students have been immersed in the preparation of their Exhibition, informing themselves, investigating and going deeper into topics of great importance for them and for the society in which they live. During this process they have been accompanied by their respective mentors.
Human rights, stereotypes, gender equality and the environment were some of the themes addressed in the exhibitions held on 15 and 16 June.
The IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) enables pupils to develop and develop to express their opinions, make choices and take responsibility for their own learning. It offers a transdisciplinary, inquiry-based curriculum framework that develops conceptual understanding. The PYP draws on the best educational research, experiences and thought leadership in education from IB World Schools.
The PYP has evolved to become a world leader in future-focused education. This programme exemplifies best educational practice globally as it responds to the challenges and seizes the opportunities presented to young learners in this ever-changing world.
*Only schools authorized by the IB Organization may offer any of its four academic programmes: the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP), the Diploma Programme (DP) or the Career-related Programme (CP). Candidate status does not guarantee that authorization to become an IB school will be granted.
