Infants (0-6 years old)

The beginning of a lifelong learning journey

We believe that the early years are essential for nurturing curiosity, confidence, and a lifelong love of learning. That is why our Early Years programme is built on an innovative, international educational approach tailored to each child's individual development.

Our bespoke PRE-PYP programme, inspired by the philosophy of the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP), introduces inquiry-based learning from an early age, encouraging children to explore, investigate, and actively make sense of the world around them.

From the very beginning, children benefit from a natural English immersion environment while developing strong Spanish literacy and numeracy skills, building a solid foundation for their future learning journey.

Frequently Asked Questions on Infants

We provide a high-quality Early Years education focused on the holistic development of children from 4 months to 6 years of age. Our educational programmes are designed to nurture curiosity, creativity and learning through play, within a safe, caring and nurturing environment.

The Early Years at Colegio Europeo de Madrid combine personalised care with an international, inquiry-based approach that promotes active learning and the holistic development of every child. From the First Cycle of Early Years (ages 1–2), children begin their learning journey through the Pre-PYP, our own programme inspired by the principles of the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP). It encourages curiosity, exploration and learning through meaningful experiences. In the Second Cycle of Early Years (ages 3–6), pupils continue with the PYP, further developing their knowledge, skills and international-mindedness.

The Pre-PYP is Colegio Europeo de Madrid's own programme for children aged 1 and 2, inspired by the principles of the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP). Through play, exploration and concept-based learning experiences tailored to their stage of development, children begin to develop curiosity, independence, communication skills and critical thinking, laying the foundations for a smooth transition into the PYP.

The Primary Years Programme (PYP) is one of the four programmes offered by the International Baccalaureate (IB), designed for children aged 3 to 11. At Colegio Europeo de Madrid, the PYP begins in the Second Cycle of Early Years and promotes an inquiry-based, concept-driven approach to learning. It supports the development of knowledge, skills, attitudes and attributes that prepare pupils to thrive in an ever-changing, global world. Through play, exploration and concept-based learning experiences tailored to their stage of development, children begin to develop curiosity, independence, communication skills and critical thinking, laying the foundations for a smooth transition into the PYP.

At Colegio Europeo de Madrid, our Early Years programme is delivered in a bilingual environment with significant English immersion. From the earliest years, children acquire English naturally through play, daily routines and meaningful learning experiences, developing their language skills in a stimulating, supportive and age-appropriate setting.

We implement strict safety and welfare measures to ensure a safe and secure environment for children. These measures include safe facilities, trained first aid staff and well-defined emergency protocols. In addition, a caring and nurturing environment is promoted to make children feel comfortable and happy.

It fosters close collaboration with families through regular meetings, progress reports and joint activities. This approach ensures that parents are informed and can actively participate in the educational development of their children, creating a supportive and engaged educational community.
